Carey Fraser was born in Big Spring, Texas, where he grew up and graduated from Big Spring High School. He attended the University of Texas in Austin and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English. He then went on to the University of North Texas in Denton, where he obtained a Master of Arts in English. Carey attended St. Mary’s School of Law and Oklahoma City University School of Law, where he obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence.
He was elected the Erath County Attorney in 2000 and re-elected to the same position in 2004. Carey served as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce in 2005, and also chairs the Legislative Committee for the Chamber. He is a Certified Financial Planner, and is a member of the Stephenville Optimist Club as well as the Erath County Bar Association. Carey is admitted to practice in all Texas State Courts (1996), the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas (1998), and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit (1998). He is married to his wife Julie and has one daughter.
